for the Kentucky Derby, the black & white everything on a 6” brim and
flat-top crown of white sinamay. At the center is a perfect black
sinamay ‘chrysanthemum’ that I found during some deep trolling of British
hat material sites. I added a cluster of checked taffeta edged sinamay
petals, and some loops of 4.5” black and white striped ribbon, black netted
ribbon, some white with black dot grosgrain . . . until it was time
to stop. Big. Dramatic. An important hat. You need
to think tall and wear heels with this hat --- but it can also be downscaled
as in the Amanda 2 (the next hat in this series).
